The Augustinian Church, also called Heilig-Hartkerk or Paterskerk, was built at the end of the 19th century for the Augustinian priests of the adjacent Mariënhage Monastery. It is a three-aisled cruciform church in the Neo-Gothic style, made of brownish-red brick with decorative masonry and horizontal bands of yellow stone. The tower is hexagonal and 66 meters high. The church contains several chapels and confessionals. A striking feature of the church is the Sacred Heart statue on the tower, created by the Roermond sculptor Jean Geelen. It is an image of Jesus stretching out his arms in invitation. It is made of wood and copper, is four meters high, and weighs 800 kilograms. The formerly gilded statue is popularly called Jesus Daredevil. The stained glass windows in the transept facades are by Daan Wildschut and Charles Eyck. The interior is Neo-Gothic and partly by Jan Custers.
