https://kasteelasten.nl Due to its vulnerability and the fact that it is located on private property, the ruins are only accessible by appointment. On the edge of the Peel, hidden behind lush vegetation, lie the romantic remains of the more than 600 year old castle of Asten. The idyllic ruin evokes a turbulent past of exploitation, wars and witch hunts. The last war was fatal to the castle, in 1944 an attack on the castle took place in which the building became a ruin. The castle may have perished, but the outer bailey still stands in all its glory and has been continuously inhabited for the centuries of its existence. Until the 1970s they were farms and at the moment they offer shelter to around fifty people. Due to its vulnerability and the fact that it is located on private property, the ruins are not freely accessible.

Many different colours and certainly in late spring and all summer a lot of green. If it is very quiet, there is a good chance that you can see some deer. There are quite a few paths that go in all directions from there. You can choose to cycle to Belgium, or to Valkenswaard. Through the woods to Heeze, or whatever.

Beautiful fens on the Somerense Heide. With many walking and cycling routes. It can be very busy on weekends. Paths are used by walkers and cyclists. So watch out.

Very nice gravel path through the woods and along the heath. Very fine gravel so also good to do with a racing bike.

Beautiful piece of heathland and forest landscape around the pandijk and the happy hunter. Beautiful gravel cycle paths. One of the more beautiful pieces of nature in this region. Nice to combine with the Keelvenroute. Good to do with gravel bike, racing bike and touring bike.

It doesn't get any better than this. I call it glamour gravel. Accessible for all types of bikes. Paths are quite narrow so watch out for oncoming traffic.

You won't find better gravel paths in the area. Beautiful network over the Strabrechtse Heide. Beautiful heathland and various fens. Good to do with the gravel bike but also with 30mm tires on the racing bike.

Great place in the middle of the Heide. With a little imagination you imagine yourself in a desert. Beautiful yellow sand. Wonderful place to walk and enjoy the silence.

Nice start of a long narrow gravel path over the heath. Cycling one behind the other is recommended. A sharp bend that is not very visible in the summer. So adjust your speed. Good to do on a gravel bike or racing bike with 33mm tires.

It doesn't get any better than this. Gravel as gravel is meant to be. Beautiful along the Beuven. On nice days it is busy so watch out for oncoming traffic and walkers.

One of the most beautiful paths in the area. Slightly rolling and nice curves with a beautiful view of the heath on both sides. A must do if you go cycling on the Strabrechtse Heide!
