The Grote Markt is the central square of the city of Bergen op Zoom. It is a historic and lively square surrounded by historic buildings. Here you can see the town hall, the St. Gertrude Church, and several characteristic houses. The square is full of cozy cafés, restaurants, and terraces where you can enjoy a bite to eat and a drink. The Grote Markt is also the venue for numerous events and festivals throughout the year, including musical performances, markets, and cultural festivities.

Waiting for the Lock Near Steenbergen lies the restored Benedensas lock complex. Since 1824, the locks protected the land behind it from high water from the Volkerak. They also bridged the height difference for shipping. The lock is called Benedensas because it lies on the lower reaches of the Vliet, unlike—indeed—the Bovensas. Rugged skippers would enjoy a drink in the café until they could pass through the lock. This is how it is told in the regional novels about the little boy Merijntje Gijzen. The Merijntje Gijzen walking route, right through Benedensas, takes you back to that time.

The Benedensas, sometimes also written as Beneden Sas, is a restored historic lock complex from the 19th century (1824 - 1884).

The artwork on the roundabout of the N259 consists of three silhouettes of striking buildings in Steenbergen; such as the Gummarus Church, the Reformed Church and the Water Tower. The foundation piles of the artwork form a vault in which the DNA of the city will be stored for fifty years. The idea is that it will be opened during the celebration of 800 years of Steenbergen.
