The castle is located on an island near the Dommel River and dates from around 1400, but is no longer in its original state. It was likely renovated between 1504 and 1509 by Jan Heyns, one of the architects of St. John's Cathedral in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Emapel/Empel Lock: In the region between Venlo and 's-Hertogenbosch, there are waterways with locks; Empel is a district of 's-Hertogenbosch in North Brabant. The Sint-Lambertuskerk in Cromvoirt was built in 1888. The current church in neo-Gothic style was designed by architect Carl Weber. It is a three-aisled cruciform basilica with a crossing tower. The tower was added separately in 1891 to prevent settlement. The tower was blown up by the Germans in 1944 and after the war it was only restored to the height of the nave and adorned with a saddle roof.
