Umbriatico, located in the province of Crotone in Calabria, is a small town known for its connection with agriculture, livestock and forestation. One of its main features is the cliff on which it was built. Described by historians and poets as a place difficult to access and surrounded by spectacular landscapes, this town has never needed a castle since the rock on which it stands represents a natural fortress. Its history dates back to ancient times, with ties to the city of Bristacia and Roman rule.

La Sila is a huge plateau positioned above 1,000 meters above sea level, it is a very wild and sparsely inhabited place with enormous charm from a landscape point of view. The Sila National Park is one of the most important biosphere reserves that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historically, the park is also known as the "Great Forest of Italy". It has nine biogenetic nature reserves. One of the most important is the reserve "Giganti della Sila" (Giants of the Sila) in Fallistro. Among other things, ancient black pines (Pinus nigra) grow here.
