Castrovillari is located in the heart of the Pollino National Park, between the valleys of the rivers Sibari and Lagano and along the cycle path of the parks of Calabria. Its name derives from the Latin Castrum Villarum, "fortress of the villas", dating back to the era of Roman colonization.
