The Scalone pass is a pass at an altitude of 740 meters which divides the Lucanian and Calabrian Apennines. It is located in the Pollino National Park along the road that connects Belvedere Marittino and Sant'Agata di Esaro.

San Giovanni Battista is the main church of Acquaformosa, built in the early 16th century by the Albanians who settled in the area. It was later remodeled in the Romanesque-Baroque style, and the three-nave interior features splendid Byzantine mosaics and icons, including Christ Pantocrator in the central dome.
