Uli Aigner, the creator of the two large purple path porcelain sculptures in Lößnitz, numbers her works (items). You can view them online; so far there are 11,163, scattered all over the world. Residents of Lößnitz could buy smaller porcelain pieces to display in their windows. For this purpose, there's a miniature purple path with 21 items. A map is available on the town's website, which you can follow. We did have to search a bit here and there, but we had a lot of fun. We found all but three items (No. 21, the apple project, seems to have moved out; for No. 4 at the Heeg town shop, we probably would have had to check the opening hours; and No. 1, the furthest away, is private and not open to the public). So, you can safely turn back at the Eisermann ideas workshop. We looked up the missing items on the website at home.

A wide variety of porcelain vessels, from tiny to superhumanly large, are presented along the Purple Path in Lößnitz. The monumental porcelain sculptures from the One Million series, numbers 3501 and 3502, by Austrian artist Uli Aigner, pay homage to the region's industrial history. In the 17th century, cobalt was mined in Lößnitz, which later enabled the production of Meissen porcelain. The works of art thus create a connection between past and present. From chemnitz2025.de One Million, the lifelong project of Uli Aigner, born in Austria in 1965 and living in Berlin, has been developed since 2014. It is created with her hands and through the rotation of a potter's wheel. In collaboration and communication with others, the artist, who studied product design and digital image design after an apprenticeship as a potter, creates a wide variety of porcelain vessels, from tiny to superhumanly large. Aigner carves a consecutive number into the wet clay on each of the approximately 8,000 items created to date, fires the porcelain with a transparent glaze, and places it within a larger whole. A world map, which can be viewed on the artist's website, records her locations and changing provenances in a global archive. The two monumental pieces in the series, numbered 3501 and 3502, were created in 2019 in collaboration with potters in Jingdezhen, China, the world capital of porcelain and a former imperial production site of the legendary Ming Dynasty. Item 3502, weighing approximately 800 kilograms, could not withstand the forces of nature and collapsed during the manufacturing process. Aigner included the supposedly broken piece, along with the equally supposedly intact piece, in the series of "One Million" as possible forms of existence in the Porcelain Code. Geographically, Lößnitz follows the mining towns of Schneeberg and Aue-Bad Schlema. After cobalt was mined by the Schnorr family of entrepreneurs from Schneeberg as early as the 17th century, the "St. Andreas Zeche Weisse Erde" (White Earth Mine), operated by them, followed in 1708 as a mine for kaolin, the raw material of the "white gold" porcelain. Until then, fine Chinese porcelain had been imported for European royal families, but in 1710, the first Meissen porcelain factory was established. The Ore Mountains thus supplied the hardware for the blue-decorated Meissen porcelain, which followed Chinese fashions. Aigner chose Lößnitz as the location for the monumental items 3501 and 3502, which were molded in China, thus closing the circle.
