The Stollberg Market Church, also known as St. James' Church, is dedicated to the Apostle James, the patron saint of merchants and traders, and its imposing tower has watched over the town's market square for centuries. The first St. James' Church was built around 1440 in the Gothic style. It burned down on August 5, 1633, during the Thirty Years' War. The foundation stone for the new St. James' Church was laid on July 24, 1652, and the church was reconsecrated on April 5, 1659. However, due to a lack of funds, the people of Stollberg had to forgo a tower. Ground was finally broken for the 57-meter-high tower on May 1, 1878, and it was consecrated on September 14, 1879. Since 2006, the tower has housed a peal of four bronze bells. The organ in St. James' Church is the work of the Dresden organ builder Carl Gottlieb Jehmlich and was built in 1842. The church underwent interior and exterior renovations between 1993 and 2002. The color scheme reflects the Neo-Gothic style, i.e., the pre-1840 appearance. https://www.stollberg-erzgebirge.de/stadt-stollberg/stadtportrait/sehenswuerdigkeiten/st-jakobikirche/
