The commune of Assé-le-Bérenger owes its name to the Bérenger family who settled in the parish of Assé in the 12th century. The church dedicated to Saint Thuribe holds a prominent place in the town's memory. Completed in 1882, it replaced two former sanctuaries. It notably houses a pulpit, a wooden Christ, and an oil painting. According to legend, Saint Thuribe came to the commune during a period of severe drought. He caused a spring to appear. Currently, the stream feeds the commune's washhouse before flowing into the Erve River. Two statues have been sculpted in honor of Saint Thuribe.

Far from the high Alpine passes, here is a small climb in the Sarthe countryside. On the program, 1.8 kilometers at an average of 4.5% coming from Montreuil-le-Chétif, or 2.1 kilometers at an average of 5.2% from Pezé-le-Robert.

This 11th century medieval bridge is a beautiful place to contemplate Beaumont-sur-Sarthe for a short moment. In addition to the river, you can see the castle located on the heights of the town.

Very nice rating, but very hard

The church of St Pierre des Ormes holds an important place in the heart of the village, surrounded by its pretty flowerbeds. Dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, it has retained its Romanesque portal. After crossing it, you cross the narthex to reach a second door which opens onto the main nave of the building. The wooden vault is barrel-vaulted. An extension was made in the 16th century by adding a side aisle, with two windows which would become dormers. The small door with Renaissance decoration opened onto the cemetery, then adjoining. The current choir was built in the 19th century. The altar is made with two hemp braies supporting a beautiful wooden board. Note, on each side of the choir, wooden niches, one of which houses a statue of St John (with an eagle). A pilgrimage was organized every September 8th to Saint Gourgon, because the fountain was reputed to cure eye diseases. Very popular until the beginning of the 20th century, it was gradually abandoned. The fountain, now filled in, was located in the cellar of a house near the current town hall.

The oldest parts of this church seem to date from the Middle Ages, but the building was greatly remodeled in the 16th century. The side chapels were added at this time, as was the opening of the large stained glass window of the choir. The steeple, restored in the 19th century, is covered with slate. Inside the church, two polychrome statues attract attention. One of the Virgin in terracotta, the other of Saint Barbara in stone, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. A wooden Christ is also worth noting. The wooden stalls date from the 18th century, as does the altarpiece of the high altar (1755). The wrought iron communion railing dating from the 18th century is still in place. Its rocaille-style ornamentation is common at this time. Until 1911, the church was surrounded by its cemetery.
