The Elisensitz was built in 1833 on the orders of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia. This lookout point was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel during the expansion of the hermitage as a tomb for the blind King John of Bohemia. During several visits by the royal family to Kastel-Staadt, this lookout point was the favorite place of his wife, Crown Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, who was incidentally the aunt and godmother of the famous Empress Sisi. From the Elisensitz rest area, you have a wonderful view over the Pinschbach valley and the Runder Turm rock formation all the way to the Altfels.

Great trail! At the highest point (as far as I remember) there is a beautiful little chapel made of the same rock as the one you see again and again before.
