The Kirschbaumhütte is a small shelter located in the heart of the Palatinate Forest, right at a crossroads. A seating area inside invites you to take a short rest during your hike.

“In 1764, the foundation stone was laid for the castle, which was built as an official residence for the Scharfeneck lordship by the Princes of Löwenstein-Wertheim. [...] The building was built on the site of the Penitentiary Monastery, founded in the 13th century and closed in the 16th century [the monastery church of which was opposite: see today's "Archaeological Park "Monastery Church of St. Johann"]. The castle remained in the possession of the Princes of Löwenstein-Wertheim until 1793, was then auctioned off as national property and passed through various owners to the Badische Anilin und Sodafabrik (BASF) in 1913. [...] The building, built in the Rococo style, is not accessible today." "From 1914 to 1918 it served as a military hospital for the German Red Cross. It remained a convalescent home until 1965. After a renovation, it was reopened as a BASF study center. In the 1980s years, the building was restored, the outbuildings were remodeled and new seminar rooms were added."
