Site of a former cemetery where soldiers fallen during the battles on Mount Ortigara were buried.

Spectacular labyrinth, worth a visit and I assure you it will remain etched in your mind. A succession of ups and downs, narrow walls, passages between narrow rocks, panoramic points, ladders. I think one of the most beautiful labyrinth routes in the area 😍🤩

The characteristic "rock labyrinth" makes this one of the most particular places of the Altopiano dei 7 Comuni. The interest is of a geological type for the rock formations of the Lower Pleistocene; of a faunal and floristic type due to the presence of protected and particular animals and vegetation; and historical due to the presence of tunnels, stairs and walkways dating back to the First World War during the Stafexpedition.

A stunning and adventurous natural labyrinth, shaped over millions of years by the action of water on the karst rock, creating caves, tunnels, crevices, passages, and canyons! It is a veritable "natural castle," with rooms, corridors, and secret passages, perched atop a hill along the edge of the Valsugana valley: hence the name "Castelloni"; "San Marco" because it is close to the former border between the Republic of San Marco (Venice) and the Habsburg Empire. During World War I, given its proximity to the Ortigara front, it was adapted by Italian soldiers as a second line of defense and observation post. Spectacular views of the Valsugana valley and the Lagorai mountains are offered. The trail is well marked with progressive numbers from 1 to 48: we recommend following them for a complete visit and to avoid getting lost, avoiding dangerous off-piste routes over the precipice. Caution and caution: the rock can be slippery when wet and humid.

Spectacular and enormous sinkhole of karst origin that swallows up a good portion of woodland: it is a large collapse sinkhole, bordered on three sides by vertical rock walls. You pass by it and you wouldn't even notice it, if there wasn't a sign indicating it! I found this anecdote online: 'you can see a large natural sinkhole and here was the hiding place of young Austrian draft dodgers during the Risorgimento, when the entire territory was under the dominion of the Austrian Empire'... does the name refer to those (forty) people?

After a long climb, excellent point for a break. In the low season it is closed.
