The Selter del Ruì, also known as Buco del Freddo, is a fascinating natural phenomenon located in Valzurio, in the Seriana Valley. It is a small stone construction that uses a crack in the ground from which cold air comes out, maintaining a constant temperature between 3 and 5 degrees all year round. This "natural refrigerator" was used by farmers to store butter, dairy products and meat, and is still a place of great interest for hikers today. The path to reach it is immersed in nature and can be combined with the excursion to the Marmitte dei Giganti and the Baite del Moschel

The Baite del Moschel are located in Valzurio, a splendid valley in the Val Seriana, in the province of Bergamo. They are a group of six huts located at 1265 meters above sea level, immersed in a natural amphitheater of meadows, woods and crystal-clear water springs2. The hike to reach them is easy and suitable for everyone, with a difference in altitude of about 315 meters and a travel time of about 2 hours. The simplest route starts from the Spinelli area, where you can leave your car and follow a comfortable dirt road. A more adventurous alternative is the CAI 340 trail, which goes up the Ogna stream through beech and maple woods. Along the way you will come across the Fopa Fosca, a curious source of cold air that was once used to preserve milk and cheese. Just before arriving at the huts, you can visit the Buco del Freddo, a stone construction that served as a natural refrigerator. Once you reach the huts, you can stop for a picnic and enjoy the tranquility of the place. In the past, this area was used for the extraction of barite, a precious mineral

Incredible natural phenomenon, thanks to a fissure in the ground that leads into the depths, the cold air from the subsoil rises to the surface in summer. The peasants exploited (and still exploit today) the phenomenon by building a small building used as a place of conservation. It may seem incredible but on 07/20/2023 around 3:00 pm the thermometer inside the club showed 5.1 degrees!! Basically a natural refrigerator.

The Möschel huts are well-restored mountain huts, framed in a fabulous landscape, typical of the Bergamo Prealps, characterized by meadows and woods. Today the cabins are privately owned and inhabited.

03.08.2022 Helpful and kind girls. Exceptional cook, congratulations. 1/2 board 50 euros (without CAI card): overnight stay, breakfast and dinner with a choice of three first courses and three second courses. Excellent Casoncelli, like the polenta with cheese, perhaps a little too much butter (personal taste). Excellent view of the mountains in front, with tables, chairs and deckchairs. Too bad only for a strong light coming from a small hut on the right of the refuge. Clean rooms. Mine with bathroom in the room. Highly recommended. Equipped for disabled people with a lift and I know that the refuge offers a transport service.

A curiosity. In the summer, people look for refreshment by looking out the window. In harsh winters, now forgotten, it is possible to do the same thing but to warm up a little ...
