A highlight for the senses is the so-called Stinkerquelle (Smrad'och). In the high moor, which is a nature reserve, volcanic gases flow from the subsoil. This includes hydrogen sulfide. The gas that smelled like rotten eggs gave the Stinkerquelle its current name.

In this area there are not only springs with water but also so-called mofettes, where only gas comes out of the earth: sometimes carbon dioxide, sometimes also hydrogen sulfide, sometimes in combination. In some places there are whitish-yellowish deposits in the middle of the forest, in the middle there are small holes from which you can sometimes hear the air hissing out. These deposits smell of sulfur, even if it is not elementary sublimated sulfur. The gas sources become visible when they pass through small water sources like here at the stinker and thereby form gas bubbles in the water.
