The approximately 26 ha large NSG Elter dunes (also called Elter Sand) is predominantly wooded. Beautiful paths meander through the forest and the hilly inland dunes landscape with the juniper heath is definitely a special highlight in the region. Certainly not so nice is the fact that the Elter Sand traverses a power line, but the regular cutting measures of the power grid operator have released this particularly valuable juniper heath as a relic of the heath period only and continuously received.
