The house Kemnade is a moated castle in Hattinger district Blankenstein. His name - derived from the word "Kemenate" - shows that the noble seat of the then surrounding farmhouse stood out by at least one brick fireplace.
Until 1486 the property was on the northern bank of the Ruhr on Stiepeler local area. After a flood that year, however, the river changed its course in a northerly direction, so House Kemnade is since separated from the place in the southern Ruhrauen. For a long time, it was only accessible by ferry before the current Kemnader bridge was built in 1928.
As a fief of the house Lippe, it was owned by those of Dücker since the 13th century. They were followed by the family von der Recke as a borrower. After a fire in 1589, the owners gradually rebuilt it until 1704. At the end of the 18th century, a farmyard was added.
Although standing in the Hattinger area, Haus Kemnade is now the property of the city of Bochum, which it acquired in 1921 from Ludwig von Berswordt-Wallrabe. The complex is home to several museums and a gastronomy.

Haus Kemmnade has been known for its good food for years and often serves as a venue for various events.
Nevertheless, you can also sweaty and with Radler clothes just sit in the beautiful courtyard and drink something without being viewed funny. There are also very delicious cakes. The approach from the lake leads unfortunately over the, in fine weather overcrowded, parking lot. Therefore, the last few meters are a zig-zag course between annoyed driving, free-roaming dogs, walkers and cocky inline skaters.
