In addition to grain, oil and barley mills, Vlotho had a hydroelectric hammer mill, a paper mill and several turbine systems for generating electricity. One of the grain mills on the Forellenbach was the Kuhlsche Mühle, built in 1823. It was demolished in 1975 as part of urban redevelopment for the construction of the L 778. The restored water wheel was erected on Klosterstrasse in 1991 to commemorate the important role played by the mills in Vlotho.
