The Forte Stella constitutes, together with the Falcone Fort and the Linguella Tower, one of the main nucleuses of the Medici fortifications built by Giovan Battista Bellucci and Giovanni Camerini. on the second hill that crowns the city of Portoferraio, dominating the northern cliffs, the gulf and the city. Made of red bricks, it was equipped with internal galleries and slits that run along the perimeter to counteract any attacks. The Grand Duke Leopold had a circular lighthouse built in place of the original light
