Great road. It can get a bit boring though. If your on a mtb you could pick a route without the road. You do get some fast cars going past and an awful lot of road cyclists.

Travelling East to West, The Military Road is one of best cycling roads in the UK. Smooth tarmac, pitched slightly downhill with only the occasional rise makes for a really good blast up the twin climbs.

This is a great, fast ride for competent road cyclists. However, it does conclude with two strong climbs and a steep descent into Freshwater Bay.Note, that there is a good descent between the climbs, it is fast and short but does swing around to the right and is on the main road. The danger here is being caught by sudden gusts of cross wind when travelling g at speed on the descent. So just keep your wits about you and don't go hell for leather.

If going clockwise around the island have a gel / eat some food as soon as you see the white cliffs... should be working through your system time you get there... I love the IOW, best place in Southern England!!
