The Takahara Kumano Shrine is one of the oldest buildings on the entire pilgrimage route. It's worth making a stop here - if only for the stamp in your pilgrim book and the entry in the visitors' book. The small, richly decorated building stands under huge, thousand-year-old camphor trees.
