Location: Mont-Vully, See District, Fribourg, Espace Mittelland, Switzerland
The hill has been inhabited since prehistoric times and is known today for its archaeological sites. The Bronze Age and Late Iron Age fortifications have remained largely visible in this unique landscape. The ramparts that served as a haven during troubled times, surround the plateau.
This fortification was built around 124 BC by the Celts. Once it was part of a 600 m long fortification wall. The entire complex was burned by the Helvetii 58 BC before they moved on to Gaul.
The Mont Vully was during the First World War as a strategically important point of great military importance. Some bunkers built at this time are still visible from the street today.
