I have a question: is there a lot of traffic from Cortina to the Falzarego Pass?

The Falzarego pass is a Dolomite pass in the province of Belluno, located at 2,109 m a.s.l.

It is located between the Lagazuoi and the Col Gallina opposite the Sass de Stria, a few kilometers from the border with Trentino-Alto Adige, to which it is connected via the Valparola pass.

The Falzarego connects the Agordino and the Badia with Cortina d'Ampezzo via the Grande Strada delle Dolomiti, the state road 48 of the Dolomites. To the north, the towers of the Piccolo Lagazuoi - the line of the Dolomite front between Austria and Italy during the Great War - overlook it by more than 600 m. Here the Austrians had perched in positions in the upper part of the mountain, while the Italians dug tunnels in the rock destined to blow up the Austrian positions.

During the course of the Great War, between 1915 and 1917 the area surrounding the Falzarego pass was no man's land between the two front lines of the opposing armies. It was a very important strategic point where on 5 July 1915 the first Italian attacks against the Austro-Hungarian barriers of Valparola were launched.

In memory of this war, today there is a monument on the pass.

Very nice part from Cortina to Passo Falzarego where you climb (or descent) 900 meters.
