Hoag Route Marking the footpath and bicycle lane
The railway line of the former Hüttenwerke Oberhausen Aktiengesellschaft (HOAG) connects the Duisburg district of Walsum with Oberhausen Sterkrade. The HOAG route originally served coal transport from the Sterkrade colliery to the Rhine port in Walsum.
After five years of construction (removal of the track, asphalting, etc.) by the Regionalverband Ruhr, the combined cycle and hiking trail was handed over to the public in May 2007. As a signpost of the cycle path serve oversized, about 1.50 meters high colored figures.
The 7-million-euro project was 90 percent funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the district government of Münster as part of the ecology program Emscher -Lippe. Another ten percent was own funds of the Regionalverband Ruhr.

Great connection between Oberhausen and Duisburg, can be driven very relaxed with some highlights on the way and good junctions in many directions.
Start for some small rounds and if you look closely, you will also find great shortcuts from here if you have to go fast.

Typical symbols of the HOAG route are the large concrete play figures on bridges and tunnels.
There are some nice resting places along the way.
The route is a worthwhile destination in the western Ruhr area.

The HOAG Rad Eisenbahnrasse and Green Path on two railroad cycle paths on the lower reaches of the Rhine, Ruhr and Emscher.
The Green Path cycle path is approx. 10 km long from Duisburg Ruhrort to Oberhausen Sterkrade.
At Sterkrade it changes over to the HOAG railway line cycle path and leads back on the old HOAG line to the Rhine at Aldenrade.

I found the track to be totally different on another visit. There is hardly anything like this here.

The HOAG-TRASSE is always nice to drive, some trees have been felled and cleared recently.

Very nice route and good connection from Duisburg Walsum to Oberhausen. Parts are asphalted. There is a level crossing on the route, which cyclists with trailers can only master with a lot of maneuvering.
