Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
Hardly any nature reserve in Hamburg is so varied, hardly one home to so many animal and plant species as the Duvenstedter Brook. Meadows alternate with bogs and heaths, streams meander through forest.
Over 600 plant species form the colorful background for a whole wealth of large and small animals. About 100 bird species breed in the area. This extraordinary diversity and the many threatened species give the Brook its special significance.
The Duvenstedter Brook has a size of 785 hectares. Together with the southern and eastern bordering nature reserves Wohldorfer Wald in Hamburg and Hansdorfer Brook and Ammersbek-Hunnau-Niederung in Schleswig-Holstein, it forms one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the Hamburg area of more than 1,500 hectares.
