She was hit by a British torpedo on 1 June 1916 off the coast of Denmark. The crew was taken by German torpedo boats and the ship should be towed. When this did not succeed in the battle, the Germans sunk their ship through several torpedoes.

The ship was lost because it was damaged by a British torpedo. When German units wanted to tow Rostock, British capital ships approached. For this reason, the ship was sunk by five German torpedoes itself.
