The main cemetery in Altona was planned in 1916 by the gardening director at the time, Ferdinand Tutenberg. The first burials took place in 1923 after several years of construction. Today the Altona Main Cemetery covers a total area of 63 ha.In addition to the pure occupancy areas, which have the character of a "lawn cemetery", other generous open spaces and the beautiful tree population reinforce the impression of a park-like facility. The avenue of Japanese ornamental cherries is particularly worth a visit when it is in full bloom. The cemetery records around 900 burials a year, with the deceased belonging to a wide variety of faiths. The HSV gravesite and the tree gravesite for the urn burial should be mentioned as special grave types.hamburg.de/altona/altona-hauptfriedhof

The cemetery is a beautiful park. The avenue of ornamental cherries near the main entrance is particularly beautiful.
