Here, where Lake Flemhude flows into the Kiel Canal (NOK), it's a good place to observe ships. The big ships pass through the Kiel Canal. Some sailors enter Lake Flemhude.Did you know that the lake used to be 6.5 meters higher? That was when the Eider River still flowed through it. Today, the Eider River is diverted past it at this height.

We've been here in summer and winter... it was always different, but always beautiful. The estuary is best reached on foot, though; the path is only partially suitable for cycling, or perhaps mountain biking.

We were here in May in the most beautiful sunshine. We were impressed by the seamless transition of the Flemhuder Lake into the NOK.
