The windmill, probably built as early as 1720 on a stone quilt, is a flour mill. It is therefore referred to as a "stone bottom sailer" (built of stone on a floor increase in order to make better use of the wind, Notebaart 1972).
Until the mid-1950s, the mill was in operation, then decayed and has since been comprehensively refurbished and restored (1972/72, 1995/96, 2005), so that today it is fully operational again. According to the explanations at the mill, it is "the only mill in the Netherlands whose mill floor is not ground level, but only accessible from the outside via two flights of stairs".
