The summit offers a magnificent view of Lake Maggiore
October 23, 2020
The Monte Giove is a mountain on the northwestern part of Lake Maggiore, just before the Swiss border.
The ascent begins in the small and picturesque town of Sant'Agata. From here, a steep path climbs through a beech and chestnut forest, past some ruins to the church of San Luca at just 690 meters.
Further, a dirt road leads up to a pretty village of Marcalone at 860 meters above sea level. Here you will also find a restaurant and a place to stay.
A gravel road continues steeply uphill through a pine forest to lighter terrain.
However, the road itself does not lead to the summit and so you have to leave it at its highest point and follow a serpentine track to the summit.
The summit cross is at almost 1300 meters altitude. In good visibility conditions, it is even possible to see from the Monte Giove in the south the tower of the cathedral to Milan.
