The castle site includes: the actual castle and its courtyard with hawthorn and pillory; the inner and outer canals with their banks, bridges and bridgeheads; the court of honor with walls and its porches, entrance gate, four lime trees; the four pavilions adjacent to the court of honor with their annexes; the area north of the Erekoer; the area south of the Erekoer; the orchard south of the castle and court of honor; the garden with cellar west of the castle; the associated Kasteeldreef, Achterdreef and Paardreef.

Located near Ghent, Laarne Castle is a sublime 14th-century castle and is considered one of the best preserved fortified castles in Flanders. It was protected as a monument during the Second World War and underwent a thorough restoration in the 1960s, including the gatehouse and pavilions. In 1996 the castle received the prestigious Europa Nostra Prize for its exceptional restoration project. The castle has been open to the public for more than half a century, and is furnished with authentic 17th-century furniture, tapestries, paintings, an extensive weapon collection and beautiful silverware.
