Beautiful church in the middle of the attractive small village Röbel. Unfortunately I just drove through, but I will come back again. Röbel looked very promising! 👍🤙

you can climb the tower and then have a beautiful view of the Müritz when the weather is right:

as further information can be found at offene-kirche-mv.de:

St. Marien is one of the oldest hall churches in Mecklenburg, the location of which dates back to the time of a Slavic settlement in the area of today's Röbel. The hill has long served as a temple mountain, as in 13 Century the foundation stone for the church was laid. In the literature, the year 1227 can be found as the date of consecration. the construction of the nave followed.

Like so many others, St. Marien was given contemporary furnishings in the 19th century; it is said to be the first stylistically comprehensive restoration of a church in Mecklenburg. The equipment from the years around 1850 includes the pulpit, the sandstone pond, the pews and the west gallery as well as a neo-Gothic altarpiece with a picture by the court painter Gaston Lenthe. The organ was installed as early as 1822 and was given a neo-Gothic prospectus in 1853 by the organ builder Lütkemüller. It was extensively restored in 2003/04. A group of triumphal crosses from the 15th century and a carved altar from the beginning of the 16th century in the side aisle are preserved from earlier times.

In the tower there are four bells with an eventful history: in 1577 three bronze bells were cast, which were given new shapes in 1851. In 1917 the two larger ones were melted down for war purposes. The still preserved bell from 1851 was joined in 1952 and

1961 two new ones from a Thuringian workshop. All three are rung regularly. A real treasure is the »Sugarloaf Mountain Bell«, the casting of which is dated to the 13th century. It is one of the oldest bells in Mecklenburg and northern Germany. The "Sugar Loaf" shape developed in the 13th century and is one of the oldest bronze bell shapes.
