Mountain Biking Highlight
The Wackerstein is one of the striking rocks on the Albtrauf. Its form contributes to this, which forms a real rock peak detached from the Albtrauf. This certainly also contributes to the fact that there is a cross on the Wackerstein. This is rather unusual for the Swabian Alb.
The Wackerstein is designated as a geotope. The rock group is 80 meters long and 25 meters high. It consists of mass limestones of the White Jurassic delta and epsilon. At the foot of the rock are two caves.
The Wackerstein is one of only two rocks of the Reutlinger Alb, which are suitable for climbing. The rock info of the German Alpine Association shows 45 routes that vary in difficulty from three to eight on the Alpine scale. In the spring during the bird breeding, the rock may be closed for climbing.
The Wackerstein is also an excellent vantage point. The Albtrauf in the area of the western Reutlinger Alb is particularly varied. This is partly because the Albtrauf rises here in two stages.
