Hiking
On July 14, 1950, a fire destroyed large areas of the church. While the main parts of the interior could be salvaged unscathed, flames and smoke damaged the altar cross, attached to chains by sculptor Walter von Ruckteschell made of light wood. It has been little restored and has since been hanging as a dark cross on the bright wall above the altar. The heat of the fire and the extinguishing water destroyed the organ.

from Hamburg. The sculptor Walter von Ruckteschell was commissioned to design the altar area, creating the crucifix with a relief of the crucified Christ and the two adoring angels.
On July 14, 1950, the church burned down almost to its foundations.
The crucifix, which could not be salvaged in time, miraculously survived the fire with only minor damage.
Under church building director Langmaak, the church was rebuilt shortly thereafter,
with some changes.
