Old Fort Point is a prominent rocky hill to the east of Jasper Town - 130 m above the Athabasca River. The name ‘Old Fort’ probably refers to ‘Henry House’, a Northwest Company hut built nearby in 1811 that no longer exists but is remembered as a national historic site.

We have a magnificent view over the Athabasca Valley north of Jasper Town. The river meanders through the wide plain; the numerous small islands are covered with dense coniferous forests. Behind river and town rises the mountain chain of the ‘Victoria Cross Ranges’, with the striking Pyramid Mountain (2,766 m), Mount Kinross (2,650 m) and Cairngorm (2,610 m). To the east lies the bare peak of Signal Mountain (2,255) and a little further away the rock face of Mount Tekarra (2,694 m), part of the Maligne Range.
