A fairly straight canal, diked on both sides, which was built in the 50s and 60s (as part of the Lüchow-Dannenberg flood protection). For canoe trips e.g. if the canal is boring, the Alte Jeetzel is much more interesting and beautiful. However, there are well-developed dike paths on both sides of the river, which are wonderfully suitable as cycle paths. Here you can e.g. Very nice to cycle from Dannenberg to Lüchow (or from Lüchow to Dannenberg), away from roads that are used by cars.

The nice thing about this route to DAN is that you can choose the right or left side of the dike depending on the sun and wind. And I always get a bit of a vacation feeling there.
