The source of the river Salza is the largest karst spring in Thuringia. The Waldschänke was repositioned in July 2021. The paths have been prepared and a flood zone has been installed. The foot never freezes and flows into the helmets after 5 km.

The Salza is one of the smaller rivers in the southern Harz foothills, but has a special source. This is called Salza-Spring and is the largest karst spring in Thuringia and the second largest after the Rhume spring in the southern Harz gypsum karst area. It is located northwest of Nordhausen at the foot of the Kohnstein near the Mittelbau-Dora memorial.
