The Niggelturm (Niggel Tower) was part of the southwestern city fortifications. The lower section of the watchtower was built in the 14th century, and the octagonal upper floors in the 16th century. The tower also served as a prison in the past, but today it houses the Fools' Museum.

The Niggel Tower is one of three surviving city gates in Gengenbach in the Kinzig Valley and closes off the historic city center to the south-west. The basement is from the 14th century, the octagonal upper floors are from the late 16th century. The original function of the Niggelturm as a watchtower can still be understood today, as the tower is still used as a lookout tower. The local jail and a warehouse used to be in the fortified tower. Today the Narrenmuseum Niggelturm informs about the foolish customs in Gengenbach in the historic walls.
