The Romanesque church "Zu Unserer Lieben Frau" was one of the first churches on the Swabian Alb. It was first mentioned in documents in 1219. A possible first church building can be dated back to the Carolingian period, around the 9th century.

This early medieval chapel was located in the area of today's nave.

The spring in today's Lautern was once the starting point for the construction of a pagan place of worship. A Christian sanctuary, a Christian church, was deliberately to be built at exactly this location. In the middle of the 15th century it took on the form we see today.
