The Lauter rises in Lautern, a district of the city of Blaustein in a karst spring, the Lautertopf. This has an average bed of 600 liters per second and is one of the strongest sources of the Swabian Alb. The escaping water flows in two arms from the spring pot, which reunite after a few meters.
