Very beautiful, small historic old town, whose visit offers itself in a break. Worthwhile also as a destination or starting point a Werraradtour, e.g. to Bad Sooden-Allendorf on the river or to Hann. Münden downstream.

The historic town hall in Witzenhausen was built in 1590 on the site of a previous building erected in 1479. The three-story Renaissance building was built according to the designs of the Allendorf master builder Hans Wetzel.
In 1819, the striking town hall fell victim to a fire in the city, but was then rebuilt. The building also has a tower with an integrated carillon. The city administration is housed in its premises to this day.
