The Luhe is a river in Lower Saxony and has a length of 58.2 km.
It originates in Soltau-Deimern in the Lüneburg Heath, but has no surface drain from there. It finally comes to light at Bispingen and flows into the Ilmenau near Stöckte (district of Winsen (Luhe)), which flows into the Elbe after another 3 km.
The water is 7 to 12 m wide on average, except for some turns and behind weir steps, the water depth is around 1.50 m.
The average current is about 4 km / h at normal water levels.
The entire catchment area of the Luhe has been densely populated since the Neolithic period, as evidenced by facilities such as the necropolis of Soderstorf and the Oldendorfer Totenstatt.
At the height of today's town of Winsen, a crossing over the Luhe has been controlled by the Winsener Castle since the 13th century.
