The tower with the nickname "Leuchtturm Elbe" was built on a 1.10 m thick concrete slab behind the dike in the Elßflether Steindeich district, about 3 km southwest of Kollmar. The concrete slab is founded with 10 concrete piles, each 12 m long and 42 cm in diameter. On the spiral staircase, 131 steps lead to the former radar room. Another 14 steps lead to the former lantern room.The beacon led the ships to the mouths of Krückau and Pinnau. The fire was extinguished in 1995 when the new traffic safety system on the Elbe took over the surveillance.
