Hiking Highlight
The Saale tower in Burgk near Schleiz (Saale-Orla district) in Thuringia is a wooden lookout tower completed in 2011 with a height of 43 m and 192 steps.
The tower was built by the municipality of Burgk. The decision for the construction was made on February 1, 2008 by the local council. Originally, the Krähenhügel was the preferred location; the construction there failed due to land problems. Finally, a location was found at the entrance to Burgk on an area that was already used as a parking lot. The name Saaleturm was chosen from 132 suggestions.
The foundation stone was laid in June 2010. A copper time capsule, which among other things contains a local edition of the Ostthüringer Zeitung, the building plan of the tower and a directory of the members of the town council, was installed. [2] The viewing platform is 36 meters high, two other platforms are 4.50 and 7.50 meters high. The maximum visibility on the top platform is 32 km. The tower was inaugurated on May 28, 2011.
The tower including the installation of a toilet house, the green areas, benches and parking areas for 130 vehicles cost two million euros. 🤓

The Saaleturm in Burgk not only offers a fantastic view of the Saale valley, it is also an architectural highlight. In any case, the tower is worth a trip to Vogtland in Thuringia.
The Saaleturm in Burgk was opened in 2011. In a very short time, it has become, next to the castle, a visible landmark of the municipality of Burgk and a tourist magnet.
The 43m high tower stands at the entrance to the town, directly at the parking lot. It is already visible from afar. The tower consists of a steel-wood structure. The curved wooden construction makes it particularly interesting.
After 192 steps you have reached the observation deck at a height of 36m. When the weather is nice, the distant view is up to 32km. The Saale tower offers a fantastic panoramic view of the Saale valley, Burgk castle and the Burgkhammer dam. On the opposite side, the view extends to the mountain church in Schleiz.
Entry 1 € via a turnstile

Very charming tower with good views. Tips: park your car in the free car park and hike, e.g. After Burgk (castle, castle park, wooden bridge and continue over the Jägersteig to Burgkhammer), Grochwitz (traffic jam), Dörflas (small chapel), Walsburg (restaurant Fuchsbau), ice bridge and Kobersfelsen to the barrier wall), Isabellengrün (restaurant).

Very nice castle with garden and beautiful surroundings. Especially recommended are the medieval market or the Christmas market in December. Although it costs a little admission, but the ambience is unique!
