Bike Touring Highlight
After a long renovation work, flour is again ground daily in the Kriemhildmühle. The fresh wholemeal flour turns into strong breads, tasty cakes and first-class bread rolls. The scent that blows around your nose when you visit the bakery puts all the bakery and self-service bakeries in the shade. A perfect end to the tour on the Roman-Lippe route.
On the city wall of Xanten stands the Kriemhild mill. It is one of the few mills in Germany that is still in operation every day. When the wind blows strong enough, the sails are set and the wooden gears are put into gear. Then the grain from the funnel runs into the millstones, and one level down, freshly ground whole wheat flour slips into the flour bin.

The mill can also be visited from the inside for a small fee of one euro. Simply register in the small mill shop at the cash desk - then you can climb the (very steep) stairs and the ladders in the different floors of the mill. You can also step in the upper timber structure, so that the mill wings go right past one. Inside you can walk right past the grinder.
