For 150 years, one of the highest points of the city of Eichstätt has a powerful cross. It was founded in 1854 by the Eichstätt teacher of gymnastics Lorenz Gruber as a thank you for the preservation of the city from cholera that was raging in Bavaria after 1830. That's why the cross was once called the "Cholera Cross". The consecration was on May 13, 1855. The name "high cross" became common until much later. Originally, the still existing cross in the air was called the "High Cross".
