The Children's Peace Memorial is also known as the "Tower of the Thousand Cranes", where thousands of folded paper cranes are hanged by people from all over the world throughout the year. The origin of the monument goes back to the girl "Sadako Sasaki". She was bombed at the age of two and had leukemia ten years later. According to an ancient Japanese legend, the one who fills 1,000 origami cranes would fulfill a wish from the gods. Hoping for healing, "Sadako Sasaki" folded hundreds of cranes until her death. On the three-legged pedestal stands the bronze figure of a girl holding up a folded crane. On the stone under the pedestal says, "This is our cry. This is our prayer. For peace in this world. «
