The Children's Peace Memorial is also known as the "Tower of the Thousand Cranes", where thousands of folded paper cranes are hanged by people from all over the world throughout the year.

The origin of the monument goes back to the girl "Sadako Sasaki". She was bombed at the age of two and had leukemia ten years later. According to an ancient Japanese legend, the one who fills 1,000 origami cranes would fulfill a wish from the gods. Hoping for healing, "Sadako Sasaki" folded hundreds of cranes until her death.

On the three-legged pedestal stands the bronze figure of a girl holding up a folded crane. On the stone under the pedestal says, "This is our cry. This is our prayer. For peace in this world. «

So many innocent children died that day and in the days that followed. They are remembered here.

There's a sad story behind this monument. It's also known as the Tower of 1,000 Cranes, and was dedicated to a little girl who developed leukemia as a result of the atomic bombing. She had heard that if she folded 1,000 cranes, the gods would grant her one wish. Sadly, she died from the effects of leukemia. Around the tower, thousands of folded cranes, made by children, are displayed in glass cases.
