Top cycling routes to Achmer Airfield

Tips

  • With a length of almost 1,000 m, it is one of the longest take-off and landing runways for gliding. The airfield was built in 1935 and after the end of World War II it was partly used as a base training ground for the British army.Since the early 1950s, the OVFL has been active again on the site (mainly gliding). In 1960 the Federal Ministry of Defense had plans to convert the site into an air force airfield for an air transport squadron. However, these plans were abandoned.
