Hiking Highlight
Since the water requirements of the city of Remscheid could no longer be completely covered by the neighboring Eschbach dam, the first plans for another dam were made as early as 1902. After work began in the Neyetal near Wipperfürth in 1907, the dam, designed according to the Intze principle, was put into operation in the spring of 1909.

If you are looking for peace and seclusion you are exactly right, you have the dam almost to yourself, no car noise only the voices of nature.

Round to dream. A path for the senses, a round to flow. Almost three hours without cars and engine noises. A real insider tip, especially if you start in the morning and are still almost alone. And as a highlight at the end: a tarte flambee in the Gasthaus zur Neytalsperre, which invites you directly at the start and destination.

A hike around the Neyetalsperre is a good way of getting to grips with yourself. No navigation, no signs, just quiet and occasionally you meet other hikers. In a clockwise direction the arms come first and the "way back" to the top is shorter. Counter-clockwise, the optical half is done quickly but only 1/3 of the way. The last arm in particular pulls itself out after the dam was already so close. The restaurant looks really very inviting.
