The Große Feldberg with its 879 meters is the highest mountain of the Taunus and one of the most distinctive low mountain peaks in Germany. It forms the center of the so-called Taunus main ridge. The landmark of the mountain is the 50 meter high telecommunication tower, which was built in 1937. In addition to the transmission tower, there are three other towers on the plateau, one of which is to be climbed. From up here you have a fantastic view over the Rhine-Main area to the Odenwald. With a lot of luck and an optimal view you can even see as far as Strasbourg.
The 40 meter high observation tower is usually open Monday to Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Times can vary depending on the weather. The climb costs 2.50 euros.
